As you plan your getaways, here are some tips on how
you can get yourself ready for your most beautiful and glamorous summer
vacation:
Glorious
Tresses
It’s not only your skin that needs protection from the
sun. Use hair care products that have UV protection. Look for products with
sunflower or helianthus annuus which is an all-natural UV protectant that does
not only protect your hair from the sun. It also acts an emollient which
provides and locks in moisture. But, cut down on shampoo so you can allow your
scalp’s oil production to re-balance itself which is very important for
moisture especially during this season.
Wear hats or hair scarves to instantly guard your hair
from the harmful sun exposure. If you have enough time to fix your hair, go for
the messy braids or gentle up-dos.
Visit the salon for a haircut or a deep conditioning
treatment. Take advantage of the hair care summer promos at Jing Monis Salon
and Louis Phillip Kee.
Glowing Skin
Getting the perfect tan or sun-kissed skin is very
tricky because most people end up suffering from sunburn. Opt for a self-tanner
so you can get the glow minus the damage. To make sure that you get an even
complexion, avoid scents with citrus notes like bergamot because there’s a high
possibility for you to develop dark spots in the sun.
When exfoliating, use a grainy scrub or puff to slough
off dull, dead skin cells in the shower. However, use gentle circular motions
to avoid redness, irritation, tightness, dryness, flaking skin, stinging, and
burning sensation. Before getting a facial or diamond peel, consult a
dermatologist. There are credit
card deals that offer promos with free derma consultations and discounts on
services.
On sunscreen, Dr. Debra Jaliman, a New York-based
dermatologist advises, “Get into a habit of using sunscreen always, even on
cloudy days as UV light penetrates the clouds. Sun damage is cumulative. And
don’t forget to protect your lips. If you are oily, use a light lotion, gel, or
powder. And, if you have dry skin, use a moisturizing one.”
Barely-There
Makeup
Never (ever) wear too much makeup during summertime.
Aside from the fact that you may instantly become the talk of the town, wearing
layers of foundation and color can actually keep you from parading that glowing
skin.
Apply minimal makeup. Only use foundation and
concealer on dark spots. Skip the eye shadow and go straight to applying
luminizer on your brow bones (under your eyebrows), cheekbones, down the center
of your nose, and in the dip of your cupid’s bow. You can also dab some
luminizer along the high point of your collarbone. Choose a light coral or pink
shade for cheeks and lips.
Hairless Summer
While you may be ready to flash your Photoshop-looking
bods, going hairless may save you from a Chewbacca nightmare! If you’re a fan
of shaving, you might as well rethink your beauty regimen because shaving
causes skin darkening and chicken skin.
Go to the waxing salon or skin clinic for a laser hair treatment.
Make sure that you schedule your waxing or laser hair treatment
appointment at least seven days prior to swimming even if it’s a pool.
