Walgreens after Express Scripts took off

This post brought to you by Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.

As of January 1st, 2012 Walgreens is no longer connected to Express Scripts. All Walgreens pharmacies nationwide, including the Duane Reade Pharmacies in New York are the ones affected by the change.

As a result, the patients and their families who are covered by the Express Scripts plan are now hassled. They no longer have access to the 24-hour service and drive-thru pharmacies provided by Walgreens. They have to drive somewhere else. This certainly does not make the customers happy. To know more about this dispute, please visit Walgreens and Express Scripts press release.

To make things more tolerable, Walgreens is currently offering their Prescription Savings Club members a huge discount. This family membership includes everyone in the family (the spouse, dependents who are 22 years old and younger, and even pets). This would only cost $10 annually. If there are extended family members, then they have to pay $5 to join.

Here are the other benefits of this Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens

  • more than 8,000 generic and branded medications are on a discounted price
  • diabetic medications, pet medicines, nebulizers and flu shots are on discounted rates
  • bonuses upon buying Walgreens and Nice
