The Bad and The Happy

Hello, online and offline friends! Stalkers, you're very much welcome too. :)

Here's a happy picture:

[1] Me in sweater, drinking my Macadamia-flavored coffee, [2] Me in sweater eating pistachio ice cream. Yes, it was taken at work on the same day and yes I consume coffee and ice cream in a single day because I don't mind the calories. [3] Waffles with glazed bacon, banana, nutella and buttercream @ Hatch 22 [4] Twelve cupcakes at MOA with boo before I left off for Ireland

Know why I've given you that? I just want to make sure you'd smile before I'd tell you my rants. Hah!

I have been MIA because all my energies been drained out because:

a. My websites have malware and have been suspended by iPage. I honestly didn't know what caused them so I was like WTF, but in a calm way. This means that I can start over. I only have like 5 posts in my other blog but almost a thousand subscribers. The subscriber part kind of gets me down. I still have their e-mail addresses though. In my e-mail. Scattered. And imagine the work that I have to do in putting them in a .csv file. And imagine. I have edited my portfolio the night before it died. What a bummer. And I Had a hard time making the theme work again that I didn't stop until I made it work. I am OC like that.

b. The internet at home is like an effing ugly turtle.

c. Work kind of suck lately because I have to do MORE instead of LESS because things weren't supposed as planned and I have to cover it all up. But don't worry. I am still okay.

d. My laptop. My pink Samsung laptop is half-dead by now. The computer screen is broken on the right part and the keys aren't working. Again, a fresh start is being given to me. Do I need to buy a new lappy? I guess so. =( And that is just bad because I am super saving my money. That's why I worked double on oDesk and I took chances once again. But that is another story.

BUT, there's a happy side to my story. They are:

a. My $50.00 GlobalTestMarket check has finally arrived. Another legit online gig that I have proven. Boo was jealous he wanted to open an account when I told him to do so months ago. He needs tangible motivation before he wants to work his ass off.

b. My websites (yes, websites. Not blogs.) The Boomlet Diaries and my personal portfolio slash professional website are back on track. This time Ima take them seriously. Seriously, I will. I'll also merge my food blog here because I figured I still want to blog about food, but I'm too lazy to maintain two blogger blogs.

c. I won a huge pile of books! Won the bidding at Php120.00. Colleague is going back home to Ireland and he auctioned his stuff. I initially wanted the scanner though, but my boss says he wants it too so I was like okay. I don't want to fight off with him, but another team mate ended up winning the scanner bid. Haha. I went for the books because I like books too. I'm thinking of making a mini-library in my cube, making a mini book renting business. Haha. Joking. I have to share the books with them. The ladies were like 'Can I borrow some of the books?'. Sure thing, I'll have to set up a database and I have to send a weekly reminder that they have my books and that I need to constantly look after them. Evil smiley here. Anyway, here's a picture:

d. I got an instant good karma earlier at work because I volunteered to sort of help my groupmate and it turns out I was needing something from them so I got it. I swear the clean, no-pay back intention was real. I am good like that.

The good always nudges the ugly things out of the picture. So maybe all these bad luck that I had with my laptop and my websites are just a reminder that I need to work on my dreams seriously this time. All these happened when I had that entrepreneurial euphoria a week before. That, I am going to share with you when my plans are turning into a visible path. Promise, I will. This lady is about to get serious with her freelancing dream job. *winky*

And oh, lastly

e. I got the book entitled SHOW YOUR WORK. It inspired me to go run for my dreams all the more. More about the book soon. I'll do a book review here.

How to Shape Your Brow According to Your Face Shape

I have been obsessing with my eyebrows for quite a while now. I've always filled it in with eyebrow pencil whenever I feel like it. I face days when the inner engineer in me triumphs and I put no make up at all. This happens most especially on days when I am busy at work.

Anyway, I found a trick on how to do it the perfect way. Thanks to Alight. Did you know that your eyebrow shape should accentuate your face shape? I didn't until this infographic. I would only trace my existing eyebrow lines. Well, the end result is good as I shape my brows often. I am not comfortable when little growing brows begin to show up. I hate the sight of them.

Anyway, I am sharing my cheat sheet here. Enjoy, ladies and let's shape that brow often. It makes your face a whole lot fiercer.

The Magic of Falling in Love with A Reader

So, I was torn between doing my critical article review for my Economics class, working online and blogging earlier. School assignment triumphed, blogging won the second place. Side hustling is for later. Congralute me, loves?

But before that, this sneaky article entitled,

Why Readers, Scientifically, Are The Best People To Fall In Love With

caught my attention and while reading, I can't help but feel kilig for my boyfriend because he got a reader as a girlfriend. Haha.

See, I like reading. I love reading way back in elementary. Dad got me a basket-full of books when he goes home (from working over the sea). The only thing that I have regretted is reading Sweet Valley Kids because it has poisoned my mind in finding true love and first kisses when I was just ten or eleven freaking years old.

When I have kids, love story books should be out of their shelves. Real novels only, soon-to-be-babies.

I am not claiming that I am this notorious reader, but I have read a little bit of classic (The Great Gatsby) and a portion of the contemporaries (TFIOS). My time now is torn between novels (Currently reading Paperback Bookseller?? omg I forgot the title! The story is about a writer who can't get his inheraitance unless he writes a bestseller. The lead is a psycho daydreamer-writer who intertwines reality with his imagination. I like him.) Where am I again? Oh right. I am torn between reading novels and business-related technical articles. I like wandering as a different person through books. And I wish to be a stock market analyst all for the benefit of myself. (And whoever wants to believe in me.) So, I read a variety of materials.

Anyway, back to the article which tickled my heart. :) Seriously, the article is a treasure. I love how Lauren has crafted her words, depicting how readers think and how readers look at reality a little bit differently from non-readers. So, Ima share the lines that I find cunningly cute it could hit the melt-my-heart-and-make-me-smile scale. Here they are:

The worst part about this looming extinction is that readers are proven to be nicer and smarter than the average human, and maybe the only people worth falling in love with on this shallow hell on earth.

They can entertain other ideas, without rejecting them and still retain their own.

They have access to hundreds of souls, and the collected wisdom of all them.

If you’re still looking for someone to complete you, to fill the void of your singly-healed heart, look for the
breed that’s dying out. You will find them in coffee shops, parks and subways.

They are verbose, but not in the obnoxious way.

Do yourself a favor and date someone who really knows how to use their tongue.

There’s something irresistible about someone you can learn from. The need for banter and witty conversation is more imperative than you may believe, and falling in love with a reader will enhance not just the
conversation, but the level of it.

Finding someone who reads is like dating a thousand souls.

It’s like dating a professor, a romantic and an explorer.

If you date someone who reads, then you, too, will live a thousand different lives.

So, those are my favorite lines. Did you like them as much as I did? *Me, bantering*

Anyway, I remembered the other day when J and I were waiting for our food in our favorite sosyal karinderya, almost a resto. We arrived with me carrying a book and him carrying his iPad. I was in deep reading when I caught a glimpse of his serious face. I looked to check whatever he was up to. Oh, it was Game of Thrones. Book 1. Which he started reading like a year ago. Still unfinished. Haha. I find it cute that he also want to read because I like to read, but he can't just muster to finish one cover-to-cover.

Buttt, don't mistake me. He loves reading too. In fact, he can read all day. Well, he can read all the articles Bleacher Report releases in a day. He likes digging out old sports articles on Yahoo!Sports and analyze whatever it is that sports people analyze.

He may not be the novel-reader type, but he's still the best person for me to fall in love with. =)

Blame the article for the last line.

Why I Fell In Love with Medium

Have you ever heard of Medium? It's like a more grown up Thought Catalog.

This is my profile there.

And this is my first article published there.

Well, it's a new place where you could share your story. You could sign up and share a story. The number of minutes that your readers will take in reading your whole story will be displayed on top. I'm not sure what the effect of this is. Short stories call for more readers?

I have been invited to a similar start up before, but I have buried writing a contribution in my to-do list. Anyway, I think Medium is going places. For one, I have read a Medium article on my Facebook feed and it was shared on 9Gag. It's a funny piece you should read it.

Here are the things which I find adorbs on Medium:

  • The fonts
  • The fact that the only available formats are the minimalistic ones

  • The huge picture heading for your article

  • The notes that your readers can leave on any line of your piece!!! (#1 reason)
  • The people who write for medium (They're established people, start up founders, CEO's, managers, witty writers, etc.)
  • The richness of the pieces submitted on Medium

Here is my all-time favorite article as of the moment, The Career Ladder isn't the Office.

Go visit Medium and be moved with stories great people have to tell.

Weekly Wishes { Week 1 | July 2014}

Ooops, skipped a week. No biggie though. I can be excused because I was sick, remember?

Anyway, last week was kind of a busy one since I'm back to schooling once again. And the square pics are from my Instagram account.

(1)I made banana-chocolate pan breakfast for myself. (2)The juice with the paper straw was taken during my lunch-out with my LK buddies, the people I spent with during my Ireland days. (3)The sunny, LA-ish pic was take outside my office when I went home early. (4) Chilling on a swing over water in Magic Island, Boracay. (5) Me in PJ's when I was sick. I could almost taste that WAHM feeling. (6) Free choco-banana SB drink, which J and I didn't like. Thank heavens we didn't order it. I have to bribe myself to work. I have to go visit SB. (7) That saying was brilliant. Too bad you can't read it. Hah! Check out my instagram to read it, will you? (8) Flavors for the regular coffee. I chose Macadamia and it was divine. (9) Free candies for us when we went to Alabang yesterday. Was supposed to work on a report, but oh well. Things happen.

*Start at the picture from the lower right.

Now, lezz proceed to the wishes.
